Read-only reconciliation diagnostics

Your reconciliation is out.
Find where.

ReconTrace compares the bank and Xero evidence you supply, shows where their balances diverge, and lets you inspect the records behind each finding.

WHERE THE DIFFERENCE LIVES

A$350.00 between bank and ledger

Two distinct gaps are visible in the supplied evidence.

01External bankA$1,510.00
− A$500.00 NEEDS REVIEW
02Xero statementA$1,010.00
+ A$150.00 UNRECONCILED
03Selected ledgerA$1,160.00

Xero reports a deleted statement exception compatible with the A$500.00 gap. This is evidence to review, not a proved cause.

Locate the gapSee whether it sits between the external bank, Xero statement or selected ledger.
Inspect the evidenceTrace consequential findings to the supplied workbook cell or CSV record.
Stay in controlRead-only, no Xero login, no bank connection and no bookkeeping changes.

How it works

From “out by” to “check here.”

ReconTrace is a diagnostic companion—not a replacement for Xero and not an automatic correction tool.

01

Add the evidence

Select independent bank CSV evidence and the native Xero Bank Reconciliation workbook. Add Account Transactions if you also want ledger checks.

02

Verify what we understood

Review the detected account, period, row counts, balances and limits. Each comparison checks its own evidence. Unsupported checks remain unavailable with a reason.

03

Follow the difference

See E−S, S−L and E−L where supported, inspect source records, and decide the next check yourself.

Supported cases

Focused by design.

This early beta supports a narrow, evidence-tested Xero path. Check fit before selecting sensitive files.

What you can use today

  • Australian-dollar depository bank account
  • Native Xero Bank Reconciliation report (.xlsx)
  • Optional Account Transactions report (.xlsx) for ledger checks
  • Matching account and reporting period
  • Ledger checks: simple Spend Money / Receive Money, zero-GST rows
  • Independent bank CSV, declared opening/closing balances and confirmed mapping

Not interpreted in this beta

  • PDF statements or Excel bank statements as external evidence
  • Credit-card and non-AUD native Xero cases
  • Ledger checks with nonzero outstanding payments/receipts or GST
  • Interpretation of grouped or complex ledger transactions
  • Other accounting platforms, live feeds or Xero connection
  • Proof that exports are complete, authentic or one atomic snapshot

Outside a comparison’s supported profile, that comparison remains unavailable with a reason. Have two ordinary CSV exports? Use Advanced CSV comparison

Privacy and control

Your files stay in your browser.

In this supported build, selected financial files are interpreted locally on your device. ReconTrace does not upload them for analysis, save a client case on a server, connect to Xero, or change your books.

The website host may receive ordinary access metadata such as IP address and request time. Your browser and device still matter: use an authorised, trusted environment and follow your firm’s client-data rules.

Feedback is optional and separate from analysis. The name, email and message you type are sent via Cloudflare to our email inbox; files and case results are not attached. Please exclude client details. Closing clears an unsent draft; Forget case does not delete feedback already sent.

Common questions

A few things worth knowing first.

Will ReconTrace fix or reconcile transactions in Xero?

No. It has no Xero connection or write access. It presents diagnostic evidence and possible next checks; you decide what, if anything, to change in your accounting system.

Are the matches confirmed facts?

No. A same-date, same-amount correspondence is a proposal until reviewed. ReconTrace distinguishes verified arithmetic, Xero-reported records, proposed links and unresolved causes.

What if I only have the two Xero reports?

Choose the separate Xero-only check to investigate statement minus selected ledger. Actual bank agreement is not checked. For the primary bank investigation, supply independent bank CSV evidence and opening/closing balances; Account Transactions is optional.

What does “Forget case” remove?

It stops the local worker, clears selected files and findings from this browser tab, and resets the investigation. It does not delete originals from your computer, browser downloads or backups. Refreshing the page also discards the in-memory case.

Can I trust a zero difference as proof everything is correct?

No. It means the supported, supplied balances agree. It does not prove that the exports are complete, that transactions are correctly classified, or that every bank movement exists in Xero.

Is this permanently free?

This is free early-beta access while we learn whether practitioners find it useful. We are not offering a permanent free plan or asking for a payment method.

Need a hand with a supported case?

ReconTrace pilot support can help you understand the workflow and limitations. Please do not email client files, transaction screenshots, account numbers, credentials or identifiable financial details.

Optional public website analytics

Only if you accept, Google Analytics measures visits to this public homepage and clicks on Start investigation. It receives browser/device and network metadata, including your IP address in transit, and uses analytics cookies. URLs sent by ReconTrace exclude query strings and fragments; no user ID, financial files, filenames, account names, balances, findings or feedback content are supplied.

Investigations, Advanced CSV and feedback forms run in separate documents without Google Analytics. Declining does not limit the tool. Use Cookie settings on the public homepage to change your choice; rejecting stops future collection and clears this site’s Google Analytics cookies. It does not erase data previously received by Google. Your preference lasts up to 180 days; analytics cookies expire after 90 days without renewal. Forget case clears financial case memory, not your analytics preference.
